Mechanics often play a major role in injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system: What forces cause injuries? Can the applied surgical techniques sufficiently stabilize bones or tendons? What approaches can be used to improve the applied techniques?
The Team of Biomechanics deals with the analysis and evaluation of new materials and surgical techniques regarding their biomechanical behavior. The aim of all these efforts is to measure and describe movements and forces on the patient or on (artificial) bones in the laboratory in order to generate approaches for improvement or to examine the viability of innovative processes.
Our laboratory provides a considerable number of measuring and testing devices:
As part of a research project we have developed and manufactured special testing devices, as e.g. for spinal testing, testing of tendon tissue and bony fixation techniques at the elbow.
With our experience, we are able to verify and solve even new issues, which are referred to us by surgeons. The obtained results of our research are regularly presented during conferences and in medical publications. Thus, the patient care not only of our patients but also of other clinics' patients can be optimized on a scientific base.
